The first world cup was held in year 1930 in Uruguay. After only 3 world cup, the World War II broke out (1939 - 1945), which meant that there were no WC for 12 years...!!! I could imagine the feeling of the people and the players at that time, having their life disrupted in every way (male family members going to war, the economy would have come to a stand still, the entire industry crippled, civilians losing family members in the global military conflict, sorrows, etc). Hmmm.... scary...
And the latest 2006 WC, what is it remembered for? The headbutt. Isn't it the saddest thing to see happen at the very end of the match, about 15 minutes away from extra time. In a moment of total insanity, Zinedine Zidane, one of the greatest players of all-time, lost his temper in a bickering match with an opponent player, headbutted him in the chest and knocking him to the ground, causing himself (the captain) to be dismissed. That was supposed to be his last international game, before Zinedine officially retires. Here's the headbutt..
Ouchie...!! Must hv been painful for himself to look back after that..
Anyway, my favorite world cup match ball is the one created for the 2006 WC in Germany, the Adidas Teamgeist. So sexy....!
