One powerful stretch you can do at your desk

Picture taken from Yoga Journal Sept 2011 Edition

Sitting at your desk for too long causes :
1) Your metabolism rate to slow down
2) Strain on your neck, upper back and shoulder
3) Hunch back and poor body posture
3) Many other health risk and threats

To ensure that you give your body a proper stretching, try the above pose every 1 hour. It truly helps as it opens up your chest after slouching for hours and it gives your neck and upper shoulder muscle a breather.

Try it and hear the tiny little bones clicking away in relief when you stretch upwards and backwards. Do not forget to breathe DEEP and SLOW up to about 10 counts. After two breath, try and push your body a little further back.

The idea is to ensure that you slowly push both your arms backwards, behind your ears.

Here are 29 little exercises tips which you can do at (or near) your desk, that you can incorporate into your daily work habits.

At the end of the day, it would do your body wonders if you could go into a downward dog pose for about 5 minutes. Start with 2 minutes if 5 is too hard.

After sitting the whole day and compressing on those muscles, your body would appreciate the reverse effect, where you allow your upper body's muscle (the shoulder, neck and spine) to relax, give your hands and arms some much needed mild workout (it helps to tone it as well), while the pose increases blood flow to the brain and eyes.

The downward dog pose is both a resting pose and a strengthening pose. It helps you to neutralize your back bone as well.

Half time

Thank God, it's Friday..!!! What a chaotic and hectic week this had been for us!

It was so hectic we didn't even celebrate Valentine's Day! This year, all hell break lose. Suddenly there were tons of urgent stuffs to prepare, several outstation trips to make, assignments deadline looming on the horizon and ST fell sick, on top of that. And before we knew it, Valentine's Day was gone. Of course, we promised ourselves we will make it up this weekend.

Actually, we do not really celebrate (like buying expensive gifts and bouquets of flowers), or maybe we do. We do make it a point to make reservation at a nice quiet restaurant for dinner. And usually those restaurants will ensure the dining experience, the atmosphere and the dinner package comes with tiny little gestures and gifts (a stalk of beautiful rose or two little imported chocolates) that is sufficient to make a lady feel special on Valentine's Day.

It's the thought of making it a point to have a romantic dinner, while we enjoy the food, the atmosphere and treasure the moment together that counts. And it's something that I miss this year.

Anyway, I'm gonna chill out a bit this weekend, before hitting the accelerator again. It's gonna be another 6 weeks of grinding, followed by 2 weeks of crawling through. Might schedule for a facial massage or a full body massage next week, if I can find the time.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone! Cheerio!

The struggle

I do not think Operations Management is a tough subject. In fact, I think I've enjoyed reading the text book and the references, whichever that I could relate to and digest. However, when it comes to the assignment part, I do seem to be having problem approaching it.

Having problem approaching the question is one thing, there seem to be a strong tide which I feel I am going against, though I am not sure what it is. Needless to say, figuring it out is the frustrating part, and the approaching deadline is not helping either.

So, if anyone of you were to be unfortunate enough to ask me, at this juncture, how am I doing with my Ops Mgmt, you'll be getting this look from me...

Well, just be thankful that you're not getting this from me instead.

So...., it's best to stay away. Better still, stay far far away.. Yeah, far far, heard that...?

Am trying to continue to motivate myself here, ok, without actually biting anyone.

Motivation Quotes                                       My 2 cents worth

Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength - Arnold Schwarzenegger

Haaakkk...!?!?! You mean, I still have to go on and cannot surrender yet aar...?!?!
The important thing about a problem is not its solution, but the strength we gain in finding the solution - Author Unknown

Aiyoooooh...! So confusing! Sounds like operations to me.. :S
Our strength grows out of our weaknesses - Ralph Waldo Emerson

That sounds cool. This, I can comprehend & certainly good at.. :P

Crocs craze

Picture taken from here

Was having my coffee and browsing through the newspaper with ST earlier, when we came across some articles and product advertisements targeted for Valentine's Day.

Crocs has a new range of Valentine's shoes for ladies, more of slip-ons and they got me interested. So I came home and googled it and found some lovely designs which am I so totally smittened with. I am crazy of flat Mary Jane type of shoes actually (with or without the strap), and I have a pair from Crocs that is made of fabric. The modern names for it is flat pumps or slip-on, I think.

This is the one that I have right now and I love wearing it!

Initially it was a bit hard, but after wearing it a few times, it is so comfortable...!!! I would like to share with you all, some of those I found that I really like. The first picture right at the top (light pink) is my favorite.

This one (pix above) was found in a kid's section. Not sure if they have this design for adults.. :-D

This one looks so awesome, but I do not quite like the color combination.

My only worry is that I'm not too sure if I can wear those that is fully made of plastic looking material. That is the reason why I bought my first pair which is made of fabric. But it can get dirty especially when you walk in the rain, and I've actually washed it once.. :-D

Last but not least, notice all those that I've chosen up there are pink in color? Well, I did say Crocs shoes for Valentines.. :P

What I feel like doing right now

I do remember saying that Operations Management is not exactly one of my favorite subject, didn't I?

Thursday night is probably the worse night to be in, coz it's the night where you still have time to pore over whatever notes and books which you haven't already covered (last minute panic preparation laa normally) and it's still too far away to say that you've done all that needs to be done (which is normally reserved for Friday night).

Yet the more I turn over the pages of those notes and books, the more I feel like this...

Picture taken from here

Heading nowhere, you know what I mean...? I haven't the faintest idea what it is that I'm preparing for.

The last time I felt like this was when I was preparing for my Organizational Development & Change exam.

At this point in time, of all things, I feel like I wanna go and do the laundry, pick a fight with my furball or my neighbor, vacuum the entire house, mop the floor and wash all the toilets. Anything which could make me feel that I've accomplished something worthwhile instead of sitting here wondering what is it that I've not done, when I do not even know what I need to do.

It's an awful feeling...
