Relaxation tips to decrease jaw clenching

My yoga pose of the month – Lion Pose (Simhasana)

Do you know that most ladies hold stress and negative emotions such as anger, resentment, frustration, hostility, fear and guilt in our body. Some holds it in their pelvis (ref to my previous blog by clicking here). Others  hold it in the neck and shoulders, or lower back. And some people tend to hold them in their jaw, they grit their teeth.

Teeth grinding, jaw clenching, and tension can all lead to clenching jaws or jaw pain that interferes with sleep and with everyday life.

For detailed instructions on how to execute this pose, please click here.

Awareness is the first step in releasing painful tension in your jaw. However, be informed that what works for one person might not be as helpful for others. So, below are several pose recommendations, should you find that the lion pose is not suitable.

The Camel Pose – Ustrasana

The Downward Dog Pose – Adho Mukha Svanasan

Couch potato I have become

It's not what you think, ok!

I've been lying down in front of the TV, with the TV & Astro remote in one hand, fan remote in the other and drinks lying around the sofa since this morning and probably till tonight and tomorrow because I hurt my back, real back.

I actually unconsciously hurt it on the last day in Koh Samui, but it was healing quite nicely until yesterday morning when I decided to do some hand washing. Hurt it the second time when I was trying to scoop up a bucket of water from the bath tub. I bent down and as I was trying to stand up with the bucket, the pain that coursed through my body was in-describable.

And since I am one who cannot sit still, I have to ensure everything that I needed is around me. Don't worry, I won't end up like this (pix below), coz it hurts real bad just trying to get up when I'm already lying down.

And there isn't any junk food in the house, so no worries.

I've been watching Asian Food Channel (AFC), Britain's Coming Top Model (or something like that), Just for Laughs - Gag Asia (this had me laughing and rolling on the floor, in pain, of course..!), Mr Bean (can you believe it, wtf..?!?!), Travel & Living Channel (TLC), NatGeo, Animal Planet, E-News, CNN, etc, etc, and probably switching over to WLT soon (Chinese Channels) and Korean channels.

Right now, I wanna go cruising in Halong Bay....

Last night I was having problem sitting up straight in front of my lappie. Had to lie down. This afternoon, it's much better.

Fun, eh? But I am dreaming of potato chips right now, with a cool can of Vanilla Coke, yuuuumm...! That pix up there is bad influence, I tell ya! And some moist chocolate cake will be lovely, cheesecake would be nice, some grilled barbecue meat will make my day for sure. If there's non of these, I won't mind settling down for a Chilli's Burger.

Hmmm... watching too much of AFC isn't much good, eh?

                                              Moist chocolate cake, I want................!!!

                                                           Or cup cakes.......!?!?

Geez.... let's hope this won't take long to heal, else, mampusss....!!!

Ok, ok, I tell you what, I will settle for a cheesecake...? Alright, settled then. Now waiting for ST to get back home... :)))

I am a master of persuasion

Rhetoric is the art of discovering all available means of persuasion or ways to make truth seem more probable to an audience that isn’t completely convinced. A speaker supports the probability of a message by logical, ethical and emotional proofs. Accurate audience analysis results in effective invention, arrangement, style, delivery, and presumably, memory.

According to Aristotle, there are three different means of influencing and persuasion available. When you learn how to integrate and incorporate all of these three elements, you become a master of persuasion.

Logical (logos)
Logical proof comes from the line of argument in the speech. This is the part of persuasion that deals with logic or reason. Logos is used to back up a claim. Engaging logos as your persuasion tool involves getting someone else into a thinking mode.

Ethical (ethos)
Ethical proof is the way of the speaker’s character is revealed through the message.  This is the aspect of persuasion that deals with credibility. Since everything counts in the area of personal credibility, everything that you do or don’t do either adds to or takes away from your credibility and your capability to influence someone.

Emotional (pathos)
Emotional proof is the feeling the speech draws out of the hearers. This is the area of persuasion that deals with emotions. It has been demonstrated time and again, the great influence that emotion has over logic on a person when it comes to making a buying decision.

Most public presentations that existed from Aristotle’s time till now, has a bit of logos, ethos and pathos in it, but perhaps no other modern-day speech has brought all three proofs together as effectively as Martin Luther King, Junior’s speech called  I Have A Dream, delivered in 1963 to civil rights marchers in Washington, DC.

In the year 2000, American public address scholars selected King’s – I Have A Dream” as the greatest speech of the twentieth century. To view a copy of the speech, click here.

Hiccups and delays are hard to swallow

Experiencing some momentary glitches & hiccups in my 2011 plan, causing a delay.

This has, kind of like threw my entire schedule into chaos.

Time to get my fitness back on track

Ok people, now that all the feastings & festivities are finally over, it’s time to get back in shape!

I know, most of us including myself have developed extra bulges around our waist, hip and thighs. My brother told me he’s added 3 kg to his weight. If I were him, it would probably take me 3 years to get that 3 kg off me, that is, if I am lucky. If I’m not, that extra 3kg will be my new weight from now on, and all I can hope for is that I do not add on anymore, you know what I mean?

So, back to real serious work-out talk here. In order to get the extra bulges and fats off, basically we need to do cardio exercises. Yeah, that's what I read somewhere. That means exercise that raises your heart rate and keeps it elevated for a period of time, and there is no break in the routine. Yes, I know you hate to hear the word, it means, running and heavy work-out in the gym/aerobics, or vigorous swimming/cycling, whatever that works for you.

Don't forget to revert back to your daily consumption of healthy portions. Every meal matters, remember?

As a start, we can go for a swim..

or brisk walking..

for this week. It’s gentle and not so taxing. Try two times this week.

Next week, try to slot in cycling..

or yoga..

and perhaps by week three, you can do slow jog; and finally running by week four.

There are people who can lose weight just by dieting, ie. skipping lunch or just eating fruits and all that jazz. Well, to me, it’s always healthier to exercise, for both your body and mind.

And to do that, you have to start somewhere, right? Would it help to know that I’m struggling like you too? So let’s do it together, shall we..? Yeah, I know, this is actually me trying to talk myself into it, and hopefully, by the end of 3-4 months, we’ll be back in shape like this…

or this....

Wooweee….!!! Nice, eh? Well, I hope this is motivation enough to get you on your feet.. :-D

I’ve done my running on the treadmill this morning! Have you?
